Secretary's Report for year 2007
from the minutes of the AGM held on 16th March 2008

It does not seem another year has passed, unfortunately not a better year rescue-wise. 66 dogs have come into Rescue, and again I have to say some with not good temperament, which makes it very difficult to rehome as people only want easy ones. The Chihuahuas we seem to get are larger and unfortunately the media have not helped our breed as we all know so many pop stars have them. As a smoothcoat won the Toy Group at Crufts in 2007 I am making a note how many will now want a s/c. It will be interesting to monitor the situation. Since 1st Janueary 13 have arrived into Rescue, again up on this time last year.

I would like to say a big thank-you to Sue and Fred Less, who at the drop of a hat raced twice down to Battersea Dogs' Home picking up two sets of 2 chis, and not only picked them up but kindly fostered them for us. That's what I call dedication to our breed. Thank you also to Norma and Ray Brind who drove and rescued a chi which turned out to be a Jack Russell cross and shall we say large. Norma remarked to me it was a very tight fit in the cage, but she is so happy now.

I could not manage without my husband Rupert, my secretary who does so much. He answers the phone, does my typing and is a general dogsbody. He is one in a million, just loves the breed and works hard for their needs.

I must also thank Helen Bannister and Lyn Stacey for all their help, and of course to Cenivene Shallcross and Sylvia Morris a big thank-you for their never-ending work done for Chihuahua Rescue. Thank you to everybody who has helped me through the year.

Rescue has become almost a full-time job, and I only answer the phone between 9:00am and 7:00pm. When the time comes and I can no longer be Rescue Secretary whoever takes over will need plenty of spare time to carry out the job.

As I near the end of my report, please take care where your pup goes to, it's not about money, it's the quality of life for our lovely breed.

Finally thanks must be given to Graham and Margaret Foote who have so kindly offered to hold another Garden Party in June. This is hard work to arrange so if you can help please let Graham know.

Thank you all for listening.

Hon Secretary
