Membership

Membership of The British Chihuahua Club is open to all, subject to approval of the Committee.  The aims of the Club, as laid down in our rules, are: to promote interest in, and to encourage the breeding and exhibiting of, Chihuahuas; to maintain a high standard in the breed by following the description as laid down in the official standard adopted by the Kennel Club; and to assist members to co-operate in the best interests of the breed.

The Club is not just there for breeders and exhibitors at dog shows, although this is a large part of our work as we hold an Open Show and a Breed Championship Show ourselves every year, for which reason we operate under the auspices of The Kennel Club. We are a club for anyone who owns or loves Chihuahuas. Our Club also supports the British Chihuahua Club Rescue Association (BCCRA) which works to rescue and rehome unwanted or abandoned Chihuahuas, or those whose owners may no longer be able to care for them.

All members must agree to abide by the rules of the Club, and also our Code of Ethics which govern how we should look after the animals in our care.

Applying for Membership
If you are interested in becoming a member of The British Chihuahua Club, please read through the rules and the Code of Ethics to be sure you are prepared to abide by them, complete and return a membership application form, which can be downloaded here: Application for membership, along with the appropriate fee. If you unable to download and print the form just contact the Hon Secretary to request one is sent to you (see 'Contact us'). Your application will then be reviewed by the Committee for approval. Your application should normally be proposed and seconded by existing Club members but if you don't know any, just include a brief note about yourself and why you are interested in joining the club.

Renewals
Membership can be renewed by post using cash, cheque or postal order, or if exhibiting dogs at our shows can be paid along with the entry fee, but you may find it more convenient to set up a Bankers Order to renew automatically each year. (Please note that you cannot simply join the club by adding a membership payment to the entry fee, this is only for renewals.)

Joint Membership
We offer joint membership for any two persons with a single contact address (partners, friends, family, co-owners etc). To add a second person to an existing single membership simply add their name to a renewal form and pay the joint fee.

Subscription Rates
The annual subscription for UK & Eire members is £5.00 or £8.00 for joint membership, payable on January 1st each year. You may also pay a compounded rate of £50.00 (single) or £80.00 (joint) to cover 12 years. For overseas members the prices are £8.00 single or £12.00 joint, or £80.00 or £120 compounded. Cash or cheque payments are only accepted in pounds sterling, but overseas members should contact the Membership Secretary with your email address and we will send a PayPal invoice which can be paid by bank or credit card in your local currency.
